Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both attorneys. When she was five, she moved from London to Oxfordshire where she attended the Dragon School. Emma was inspired to become an actor by the age of six. Over the course of several years, she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing dance, acting and singing. At the age of ten she was involved and played the leading role in a number of Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the movie adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling British novel was first cast in 1999. Casting agents found Emma via her Oxford theatre instructor. After eight consecutive auditions, director David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they were cast for the roles of the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's film debut coincided with the release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film broke all records on opening day and weekend revenues, and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Critics praised the film and the performances of the three leading actors of the young generation. The Daily Telegraph praised Emma for her outstanding performance.
